Glen Woodmansee Glen Woodmansee got lucky when trying his first feijoa as a boy at his grandmother's. But when he got old enough to plant some of his own, he discovered that all feijoas are not equal! About ten years ago he began searching out the best varieties that were still being grown in California, and later the search expanded to three separate tours of New Zealand. He has tried unusual methods of grafting and air layering with some success. He summarizes his findings in a presentation that is part oral and part video. Feijoa The unappreciated feijoa (pineapple guava) can be so delicious if you have the right variety that some call it their favorite fruit! Trouble is, many people plant the bland-tasting ones. Glen Woodmansee imported some new varieties from New Zealand, where the fruit is very popular. Hear how they're performing here now that many of them are fruiting for the first time in the U.S.! Glen will answer your questions and discuss propagation, importing, growing methods, and will take you on a whirlwind New Zealand tour, where he interviewed feijoa growers and lovers. He'll show videos about the plant and its interesting history. Find out how to make feijoa wine and Frujus! For the first time, Glen's imported trees are large enough to share some scion wood! These excellent varieties have not been available in the U.S. Scions will be available for a few dollars each with proceeds going to the local San Diego chapter. If you miss the talk, a few scions will also be available at the raffle table. |
